Hello! I’m planning my first trip to Kyiv and I want to spend most of my time just walking around and soaking in the atmosphere. I know about Maidan, but I’m looking for other famous streets or historic squares that define the city’s character. I love architecture and street life—where should I go to see the “heart” of Kyiv?

Kyiv is an incredibly walkable city, and each district has its own distinct vibe. While Khreshchatyk is the most famous, my personal favorite is walking down the cobblestone hills of Podil or exploring the quiet, aristocratic streets of the Pechersk neighborhood. From my experience, you should definitely visit Kontraktova Square in the evening when it’s full of young people and street musicians. Also, don’t miss Sophia Square—the view of the cathedral from there is absolutely stunning, especially during sunset. Every street in the old center tells a story, so just keep your camera ready! Enjoy your city walks!
